Varsity Letter in Volunteer Service
Overview
PSD Students in Grades 7 to 12 have the option to receive a Varsity letter if they participate in at least 150 unpaid community service hours in our community. This is not a requirement and is different from the 20 hours of community service needed for graduation.
Eligibility and Guidelines
- Examples of Community Service include:
- Communities In Schools
- March Gladness Projects
- Hospitals
- Non-profit Animal Services
- Any healthcare/illness-related non-profits
- Non-profit environmental agencies
- Senior Centers/Assisted Living Non-Profits
- City beautification projects
- Museums
- Veteran's services
- Mission Trips
- Community service hours cannot be earned through:
- Paid activities
- Graded school assignments
- Personal participation in athletics, dance and fine arts activities (e.g., band, choir, theatre)
- Competitions or practice sessions
- Other personal enrichment activities
- Students who qualify will receive the letter during your first qualifying year, and can earn a star for each additional qualifying year.
- Hours from previous school years cannot be carried over, but students can earn a new letter each year they meet the requirements.
- Verification of hours by supervisor is now required through the student's SchooLinks account.
Information for the 2025-26 School Year
- Hours must be completed within May 15, 2025 and May 13, 2026.
- Submission deadline: Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
- *Please note: Due to the new SchooLinks format, an essay is no longer required for Varsity Letter in Volunteer Service submissions.
