Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts

The Puyallup Band Program continues to offer the opportunity to learn music and achieve excellence through the mastery of playing woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments in grades 5-12. Students will learn and develop general musical knowledge along with instrument specific skills during band class rehearsals. Students culminate their work with performances for their families and the community throughout the school year.

The Puyallup School District offers a continuous choir pathway for students in grades 7 through 12. 

At the junior high level, students build a foundation in ensemble singing and music literacy through introductory choir classes.

In high school, students may enroll in an introductory choir course and can progress to auditioned ensembles. Advanced singers may audition for chamber choir, which offers expanded vocal training, a diverse repertoire, and leadership opportunities in performance and community events.

Throughout the year, secondary choir students perform in multiple concerts and may choose to participate in the annual Valley Region Solo and Ensemble contest in the winter. Choirs also participate in a spring large group contest, showcasing their growth and collaboration.

Our choir program helps students find their voice, build community, and grow as confident musicians.

The Puyallup Orchestra programs offer students in grades 5-12 the opportunity to develop their musical skills through sequential learning and performing a diverse range of orchestral literature. Students will enhance their instrumental technique, music reading abilities, and ensemble skills while participating in rehearsals and public performances. These programs offer instruction on the Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass.

PSD Drama classes foster creativity and collaboration by emphasizing the process as well as the product. Students build confidence, learn valuable life skills, and express their individuality through activities, discussions, and in-class performances, sometimes as individuals and sometimes as part of a group. 

In Puyallup, our visual arts programs inspire creativity, critical thinking, and emotional expression in students of all ages. From ceramics and painting to graphic design and photography, students explore diverse mediums that foster problem-solving, intellectual growth, and self-discovery. We believe the arts are essential to a well-rounded education, helping students see the world from different perspectives and connect with their identities and communities. Through visual arts, we prepare students to be innovative, thoughtful, and engaged citizens.
